SAHELI KAPAS

While developing our handloom initiative, we identified a key gap: access to locally produced yarn. Our Cotton Project aims to empower female farmers through higher income and support with organic farming practices, so we can provide full transparency, from seed to garment.

❋ Female Empowerment

We gave the decision making power in the farmer families to the female head of the household. We wanted her to be empowered through the project to make decisions for her family and land.

❋ Organic Farming Practices

We supported our farmers through skills development and education to grow their cotton organically and to deal with pesticides organically.

❋ Transparency from Seed to final Garment

We will be able to grow, process, weave and make into garments cotton that is grown by the women of our community, all within 5kms.

❋ Increased Income for our Farmers

We paid 15% extra to our farmers on top of the government stipulated cotton price.

“Our goal for the coming year is to establish local ginning, blowing, carding, and spinning capacity, creating a decentralised cotton ecosystem rooted in transparency, traceability, and environmental responsibility, from seed to yarn.”
